Mass. tops State Competitiveness Index

BOSTON ? Governor Deval Patrick introduced the Beacon Hill Institute?s Eighth Annual Competitiveness Report at a conference at Suffolk University Law School, 120 Tremont Street, Boston on Novembe 19th.

The report shows that Massachusetts ranks 1st among all state in terms of its economic ?competitiveness,? i.e., its ability to attract and retain business and to provide a high standard of living for its residents over the long run.

BHI forecast: State revenues decline by 6.3% in FY 2009 and 3.0% in FY 2010

(BOSTON ) ? After examining the nation?s slide into a recession and the prospects for recovery, The Beacon Hill Institute at Suffolk University today released its forecasts of Massachusetts state tax revenues for fiscal years (FY) 2009 and 2010. While Massachusetts performed better than the
national economy for most of 2008, the state?s economy is expected to contract. As a result, revenue will decline by 6.3% in FY 2009 and by 3.0% in FY 2010.
